The AI angle

PataBid says its AI automates takeoff and material counts: a user selects an item on a drawing, sets its attributes, and the software finds the rest.

The company presents this as a way to reduce estimating risk. We have not tested these claims.

Before you buy

Questions worth putting to PataBid, or any estimating & takeoff vendor, on a demo call:

  • Which file types does it read, including scanned PDFs, photos, CAD drawings and models?
  • Can you run a takeoff on one of my own plan sets during the demo instead of a prepared sample?
  • When it measures automatically, how do I see what it found and correct mistakes, and how long does that review usually take on a set like mine?
  • Can I import my own unit costs, labor rates and assemblies, or am I tied to a built-in cost database?
