Downtobid

downtobid.com

Bidding platform that helps general contractors prepare and send bid invitations to subcontractors, with a bid-tracking board for subs.

Overview

Downtobid is bid management software for commercial construction with two sides. General contractors use its invitation-to-bid (ITB) tool to turn a plan set into trade bid packages, publish a planroom and send invitations to subcontractors. Subcontractors use its Bid Board to keep track of the invitations they receive.

For general contractors, the company describes a sequence: upload plans, let the software detect trade packages, publish a planroom organized by trade with specs, sheets and addenda, choose subcontractors from Downtobid's network or the contractor's own list, and send invitations that come from the contractor's own email with each sub's scope. A coverage view shows who has opened an invite and who is bidding.

For subcontractors, the Bid Board puts invites, deadlines and RFIs on one board with a calendar view, and lets teams assign estimators to bids to avoid duplicate work. Downtobid says existing subcontractor lists can be imported from a CSV file or another platform.

The AI angle

Downtobid's AI sits at the start of the general contractor's bidding workflow. According to the company, a contractor uploads a PDF plan set and the AI reads every sheet, identifies the trade scopes and drafts initial scope notes, which become the bid packages sent to subcontractors.

The company says contractors review and edit the AI-drafted packages and notes before anything is sent, and that nothing goes out without approval. Choosing which subcontractors to invite is described as a separate step, drawing on Downtobid's subcontractor network and the contractor's preferred vendors.
