Choosing field service & dispatch software
Field service software runs the daily loop of a service business: take the call, schedule the technician, quote, do the work, invoice and get paid.
Our own general advice, not a recommendation of any product.
Questions to ask on every demo
- How does scheduling and dispatch work for the size of my crew, and can technicians see their route on a phone?
- Can I send quotes with options and have customers approve and pay online?
- What are the payment processing fees, and can I use my own processor?
- Does it connect to my accounting software?
- Is pricing per user, per technician or by plan tier, and what pushes me into the next tier?
- What does it cost to add a technician or a second location?
What to watch for
- Per-technician pricing adds up as the business grows. Ask for a quote at the size you expect to be in a year, not today.
- Some features sit in higher tiers. Confirm the ones you rely on are in the plan you are quoted.
- Switching later means moving customer history, so check export options now.
If you are a small firm
If you are a solo operator or a small crew, look for plans priced by the user and a free trial, then run a real week of jobs through it.
Terms you will hear
