Autodesk Forma Site Design

autodesk.com · part of Autodesk

Browser-based tool for early-stage site planning, feasibility, massing and environmental analysis, part of Autodesk Forma and connected to Revit.

Overview

Autodesk Forma Site Design is a browser-based tool for early-stage site planning, feasibility studies, conceptual massing and environmental analysis. It is part of Autodesk Forma, the company's industry cloud for architecture, engineering, construction and operations, and builds on technology from Spacemaker, which Autodesk acquired in 2020.

Projects are geolocated so proposals are assessed against real terrain and surrounding buildings. Users can draw massing, generate options or combine both, with area metrics such as unit count and floor area updating as they work. Built-in analyses cover sun hours, shadow, daylight potential, wind, noise, views, solar energy potential, microclimate and carbon, and run inside the model.

Autodesk says Revit 2027 and later work with Site Design on shared data through Forma Data Management, while an add-in for Revit 2025 and 2026 converts a Site Design project into a geolocated Revit model. Rhino, Dynamo, ArcGIS, IFC and OBJ are also listed as supported.

Main capabilities

  • Geolocated site setup with terrain and context
  • Massing studies with live area metrics
  • Sun, daylight, wind and noise analyses
  • Embodied and operational carbon analysis
  • Forma Board for shared reviews and markups
  • Connection to Revit and Forma Building Design

Who it's for

Autodesk positions Forma Site Design for architects, urban planners, real estate developers, municipalities and public agencies, and multidisciplinary teams working in pre-design and concept phases. It covers single sites, urban blocks and master plans on infill and greenfield land, with examples including multifamily housing, mixed-use, education, healthcare, data centers, industrial facilities and airports.

Pricing

Starting price listed

Autodesk's product page lists Forma Site Design as starting at $59 per month (as shown to a US visitor) and offers a free trial. Autodesk sells it as a standalone subscription on monthly, annual or three-year terms, and also makes it available through Forma for Buildings, with a Revit subscription, or with Autodesk Flex tokens. It is included at no extra cost in the AEC Collection.

The AI angle

Autodesk says Forma Site Design includes AI-powered rapid wind and rapid noise analyses alongside its standard simulation-based versions. The rapid versions are intended to return quick results while designers iterate on massing, with the standard analyses available for more detailed checks, according to the company.

Autodesk also says users can generate massing options and compare them side by side using automatically updated area metrics, though its overview does not describe how that generation works.
