Choosing safety & risk software
Safety tools cover inspections, hazard detection, site access, training records and weather risk.
Our own general advice, not a recommendation of any product.
Questions to ask on every demo
- What does it replace: paper inspections, a spreadsheet, a separate training tracker?
- Does it capture the records I need for my insurer or owner audits?
- How are alerts delivered, and to whom?
- If it uses cameras, who sees the footage, and how are workers informed?
- How does it fit with the safety program and person we already have?
What to watch for
- Software supports a safety program; it does not replace one or the person responsible for it.
- Camera-based tools raise privacy and labor-relations questions. Settle them before rollout.
If you are a small firm
Digital inspection checklists are an easy first step, with most of the value coming from completing and following up on them consistently.
Terms you will hear
- Computer vision
- AI that analyses images or video. In construction it is used to read plan sheets, measure roofs from aerial images, track progress from site photos and spot hazards on camera.
- Prequalification
- Screening a subcontractor before inviting it to bid, typically on experience, financial strength, safety record and capacity.
